Hi, its me, Emily at Crochet Aweigh! The Sayin’ Yes Dress is the second pattern in my first ever collection! I have several more designs planned using this fast, fun, and easy stitch combo! This pattern collection is loosely inspired by a song from Taylor Swift’s album, folklore. The song that inspired this collection is the first song on the album called “the 1”, which seemed so fitting for my very first collection! Folklore was the first Taylor Swift album that inspired me to finally bring my design ideas to life!

Pattern Notes:

• This pattern is written made to measure, so as long as you have the indicated measurement for yourself or whoever you want to make this for, you can make it to fit. The design is extremely forgiving as far as the sizing goes.
• This design is made to be larger with positive ease, and is then cinched at the top.
• There are 2 silhouette options to choose from: A Line or Straight.
• Ch 3 Does count as a double crochet.
• Ch 1 at the beginning of a single crochet row does not count as a stitch.
• If you are using multiple colors like I did then save some of your first color to make the ties at the end.
• You can use ribbon as the drawstring and shoulder ties if you’d prefer!

Materials:

• 1600 yards / 4 skeins of Southern Skeins Sock Yarn – 400 yards each of 75% Superwash Merino / 25% Nylon. I used almost all of each skein for my dress in the colors Lipstick, Hibiscus, Antique Rose, and Rooibos Tea.
• US Size H8/5.00mm crochet hook
• Soft Tape Measure
• Tapestry Needle
• Scissors

Measurements:

This pattern is made to measure, which means you take the specified measurement below for yourself, or someone you want to make this for. There is no set measurement to this dress.

Abbreviations:

Gauge:

This pattern is made to measure, so gauge is not crucial, but it would be important to decide on whether you have enough yarn or not. Mine gauge came out to: 18 dc 4″; 9 Rows = 4″

To make swatch:

Chain 20, dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each across. Turn

Rows 2-9: Ch 2, dc in each st across.

Pattern:

Measure the circumference right above your bust, as in where the top of the dress will sit. Multiply the measurements by 1.25. For example I had 40.5″ x 1.25 = 50″ (rounded down to a whole number). This measurement for you is how long you will make your fsc. Make sure the stitch count is an even number. Sl st to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 4 (counts as DC plus ch1sp), sk next st, (dc in next, sk 1) across and sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch 4. Note: this row will have shrunken the fsc row a bit. Make sure it fits around the top of your bust, or is even a little big.

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), (3 dc in each ch 1 sp, sk next dc) across. Sl st to begch3.

Rnd 3: ch 1, sc in same, ch 4, sk 3, (sc in between next dcs, ch 4, sk 3) around. sl st to first sc.

Rnds 4 & 5: sl st into 1st ch sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 4, (sc in next chsp, ch 4) around. sl st to 1st sc.

Rnd 6: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 4 dc in each ch sp across. sl st to begch3.

Rnd 7: ch 1, sc in same, ch 4, sk4, (sc in between next dcs, ch 4, sk 4) around.

Rnds 8 & 9: sl st into next sp, ch 1, sc into same sp, ch 4, (sc into next sp, ch 4) around.

Rnd 10: ch 3, 5 dc in each ch sp around. sl st to begch3

Rnd 11: ch 1, sc in same, ch 4, sk 4, (sc in between next dcs, ch 4, sk 4) around. Sl st to 1st sc. Note: on that that sk 4, you may have a stitch or two more or less depending on your original st count. Make an adjustment and sl st to first sc. I personally had 5 sts left so I skipped 5 instead of 4. If you have 6 or 7 then sk 3, ch 4 and sc in next, ch 4, sl st to first sc.

Rnds 12 & 13: sl st to next ch4sp, ch 1, sc in same, ch 4, (sc in next ch sp, ch 4) across.

Choose Your Silhouette:

A Line Silhouette option:

Repeat rounds 10-13 if you want a babydoll/A Line silhouette for your dress. If you continue to repeat with these increases the dress will get fuller as you go and you will end up with a shorter dress that has a lot of bounce to it. End with a round 10. Fasten off, weave in ends, block.

Or Long, straight silhouette:

Rnd 14: Ch 3, 4dc in each chsp around. Sl st to begch3.

Rnd 15: ch 1, sc in same, ch 5, sk 4, (sc in between next dcs, ch 5, sk 4) around.

Rnds 16 & 17: Sl st into 1st sp, ch 1, sc into same sp, ch 5, (sc in next sp, ch 5) around. Sl st to 1st sc.

Repeat rows 14-17 until desired length. NOTE: Keep in mind that this stitch pattern stretches quite a bit. Make it shorter than you actually want it to allow for stretch.

Last Rnd: Repeat round 14 & fasten off. Weave in all ends & Block.

The Drawstring and ties are simply a chain length. I did my bust drawstring length at my initial upper bust measurement x 1.5. You can also use a ribbon instead if you’d prefer.

For my shoulder ties I wanted them to have a cute little bow at the top so I chained 230 to have extra length. Try on your dress to determine where you want the shoulder ties to be. I place mine 5 chain spaces from the center. Weave the tie through the front and through the back to tie it above your shoulder. These ties are not sewn in or attached in any way other than woven through the chain spaces.
