Hi, its me, Emily at Crochet Aweigh! The final addition to “the 1” collection is the Temptation Top! This is an incredibly easy top that would be perfect for a new crocheter to take a stab at their first garment. And I know you’ll be “tempted” to make this top because it only uses 2 skeins of yarn! How often can a crochet top claim that?!? The Temptation top uses 2 skeins of hand dyed fingering weight yarn. I love projects like this because I love hand dyed yarn, but it can be expensive! Its nice when you can find a project that only uses 1 or 2 skeins.

This pretty pink-yellow-olive yarn is La Jolla by Baah Yarns. I picked up these 2 skeins from KNIT! in Longwood. I don’t carry this yarn at the shop right now, but maybe someday!

Pattern Notes:

• This pattern is considered easy level.
• This pattern is written as made to measure.
• Beginning chain 2 does NOT count as a Dc.
• Pattern is created by making 2 rectangles, seaming them together, and then crocheting around to make the lower section.
• Since this top is made to measure you can use any yarn you’d like, but I recommend fingering/sock weight to keep it lightweight.

Materials:

• 2 skeins/800+/- yards of hand dyed Fingering weight yarn (1).
• Sample is an XL and used 800 yards La Jolla from Baah Yarn in color “Cheerful Whisper”. La Jolla is 100% Superwash Merino. Larger sizes will need more yarn.
• US size F/3.75 Crochet Hook
• Tapestry Needle
• Stitch Markers
• Scissors

Abbreviations:

Gauge:

Gauge is 19 dc x 10 rows = 4″w x 3.5″ unblocked, as below.

To make Swatch:

Row 1: With F hook Fsc 19

rows 2-10: ch 2, dc in each across.

Pattern Instructions

Begin by making 2 rectangles:

Rnd 1: Fsc a length that drapes over your middle from front to back. Make sure the stitch count is a multiple of 4 plus 2 extras. Turn.

Rnd 2: Ch 2 (doesn’t count as dc here and throughout), Dc in 1st st and in each across. Turn. 146 sts for mine.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in 1st, ch 5, sk 4, *sc between next dcs, ch 5, sk 4. Repeat from * across to last. Sc in last st. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 2, Dc in 1st st, ch 3, *sc in next chsp, ch 5. Repeat from * across to last sp. Sc in last sp, ch 3, dc in last st. Turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in dc, ch 5, sk ch3sp, *sc in next ch5sp, ch 5. Repeat from * across. Sk last ch3sp and end with sc in last dc. Turn.

Row 6: Ch 2, dc in 1st st, 4 dc in each chsp across. Dc in last st. Turn.

Repeat rows 3-6 until desired width. Repeat steps for 2nd Panel.

Wet block your panels if desired. These grow quite a bit!

Seaming Panels:

Try on a panel. Your foundation row should be against your neck, and last row at our outer arm. Make sure the front and back of your shirt is even with itself.

Place a marker in the middle front where you want the neckline to begin. This is where you will seam up the middle to.

Place a marker at the bottom side edges to hold them in place while you determine the underarm marker.

Determine where you want the side seam to go up to. Don’t make your armhole too tight.

Remove your panel and lay it down folded next to the other panel. Place the same markers on your second panel.

With WS out, Seam the sides using whichever method you prefer. I like to sc my edges. Seam the 2 panels down the middle in the front.

Try on your top and place a marker where you want the back seam to go to. You may need help with this one!

With WS out, seam the back to your marker.

Lower Section:

With RS out and back seam facing you, attach with a sl st to the foundation row.

Round 1: Ch 2, dc in same, working into your row ends, place 2 dc in a dc row end and 1 dc in sc row ends. Do this all the way around. Sl st to 1st dc. Count and make sure you have a multiple of 4 plus 1 extra (for the starting st). Do not turn, we will work in the round from now on.

Ex. I had 206 dc around, so my divisible by 4 number would be 205. 205 isn’t evenly divisible by 4, but 204 is. I took out my 206th st so that I have 204 plus 1 extra stitch for the beginning, 205 sts total.

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in same, ch 5, sk 4 dc, *sc in between the next 2 dc, ch 5, sk 4. Repeat from * around.

Rnds 3-4: Sl st into 1st chsp, ch 1, sc in same, ch 5, *sc in next chsp, ch 5. Repeat from * around.

Rnd 5: Ch 2, dc in same, place 4dc in each chsp around. Sl st to 1st dc.

Repeat rounds 2-5 until desired length. Fasten off, weave in ends, wet block.

Your Temptation Top is done!
