Hi, its me, Emily at Crochet Aweigh! The Makin’ It Count Cape is the first pattern in my first ever collection! I have several more designs planned using this fast, fun, and easy stitch combo! This pattern collection is loosely inspired by a song from Taylor Swift’s album, folklore. The song that inspired this collection is the first song on the album called “the 1”, which seemed so fitting for my very first collection!

Pattern Notes:

• This pattern is beginner friendly, considered easy level.
• This pattern is written as one size fits most, but includes instructions for making a it smaller or larger. For reference, my bust is 42.5″ around.
• Beginning chain 3 DOES count as a Dc, but a beginning chain 2 does NOT count.
• The stitch count increases on each double crochet row for a flowy look.
• The increases continue until the end of the cape.

Materials:

• Approximately 366 yards of fingering weight yarn. I chose Sullivan Fingering from Bede Sisters in the color Peacock. Coming to the shop soon!
• US Size H8/5.00mm and G7/4.00mm Crochet Hooks
• Tapestry Needle
• Scissors

Measurements:

• This is a “mini cape”.
• Foundation row measures about 18″ long.
• Cape length is approximately 11.5″ long.
• The cape increases to approximately 70″wide after the last row as it is designed to be flowy.

Abbreviations:

Gauge:

Gauge isn’t crucial to sizing, but you want to make sure you don’t run out of yarn. Gauge is 17 dc x 10 rows = 4″ x 4″ unblocked as below.

Pattern:

With H hook: Fsc 60. If you want yours larger or smaller, adjust fsc number, but make sure it is a multiple of 4.

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as DC here and throughout), dc in same, 2 dc in each sc across. 120 sts.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in 1st, ch 5, sk 3, sc in between next dcs, *ch 5, sk 4, sc in between next 2 sts. Repeat across until last 4 sts. Ch 5, sk 3, sc in 3rd ch of turning chain. Turn. 30 ch5sps, 31 scs.

Row 3: Ch 5, sc in 3rd ch of 1st chsp, *Ch 5, sc in 3rd ch of next ch5 sp. Repeat from * across. After last sc, ch 2 and dc in last sc. Turn. 30 ch5sps, 1 ch2sp, 30 scs, 1 dc.

Row 4: ch 1, sc in 1st st, ch 3, sk ch2sp, sc in 3rd ch of next ch5 sp, *Ch 5, sc in 3rd ch of next ch5sp. Repeat from * across. After last sc in ch5sp, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch of turning ch. Turn. 28 ch5sps, 2 ch3sps, 31 scs.

Row 5: ch 3, dc in same, 5dc in each chsp across. 2 dc in last st. Turn. 154 dcs.

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in 1st, *ch 5, sk 4, sc in between next dcs. Repeat across until last 5 sts. Ch 5, sk 4, sc in 3rd ch of turning chain. Turn. 38 ch5sps, 39 scs.

Row 7: Repeat row 3. 38 ch5sp, 1 ch2sp, 1 dc.

Row 8: Repeat row 4. 36 ch5sp, 2 ch3sp.

Row 9: ch 3, dc in same, 5 dc in each ch5sp across. 2dc in last st. Turn. 194 sts.

Row 10: Repeat row 6. 48 ch5sps.

Row 11: Repeat row 3. 48 ch5sps, 1 ch2sp, 1 dc.

Row 12: Repeat row 4. 48 ch5sps.

Row 13: Ch 3, 5dc in each chsp across. 1 dc in last sc. 242 dc.

Row 14: Ch 1, sc in 1st, *ch 5, sk 4, sc in between next dcs. Repeat across until last 5 sts. Ch 5, sk 4, sc in 3rd ch of turning chain. Turn. 60 ch5sps.

Row 15: Repeat Row 3. 60 ch5sps, 1 ch2sp, 1 dc.

Row 16: Repeat row 4. 60 ch5sps.

Row 17: Ch 3, 5dc in each chsp across. 1 dc in last. 302 dc.

Row 18: Repeat row 14. 75 ch5sps.

Row 19: Repeat row 3. 75 ch5sps, 1 ch2sp, 1 dc.

Row 20: Repeat row 4. 75 ch5sps.

Row 21: Ch 3, 4 dc in 1st chsp, 5dc in each ch5sp across EXCEPT for the last two ch5sps, 4dc in last two ch5sps, dc in last. 374 dc.

Row 22: Repeat row 14. 93 ch5sps.

Row 23: Repeat row 3. 93 ch5sps, 1 ch2sp, 1 dc.

Row 24: Repeat row 4.

Row 25: Ch 3, 5 dc in each chsp across. Dc in last. 467 dc.

Ties & Border

With G hook:

Row 1: ch 75. With WS of capelette facing, attach with sc to fsc, sc across top edge of capelette, ch 76 for second tie. Turn. 211 sts.

Row 2: sc in 2nd ch from the hook and in each st across. 210 sc. Fasten off, weave in ends & wet block.
