Below you will find the free crochet pattern for the Lock It Down Dress!

Hi, its me, Emily at Crochet Aweigh! The final pattern (for now) in the “I Think He Knows” collection is the Bless My Soul Sweater! I Think He Knows is a song from Taylor Swift’s Lover album and it is SO catchy! It is a cute song about having a crush. The part of the song that inspired this sweater goes, “I want you, bless my soul, I ain’t gotta tell him, I think he knows”. Click here to listen to the song on YouTube!

Pattern Notes:

• This pattern is considered for an advanced beginner.
• This pattern is graded for sizes XS – 5X.
• Sweater is based on hip measurements plus 3-5″ of positive ease.
• I crochet on the tight side, so you may want to go down a hook when first checking gauge.
• 5dc in 1 stitch is referred to as a “shell” throughout the whole pattern.
• 3dc in 1 stitch is referred to as a “half shell” throughout.
• The bottom of the sweater, neckline, and sleeves are worked without turning.

Materials:

• 1395 – 2875 yards of DK #3 weight. Sample used approx. 1785 yards of Sensations Breeze, a textured DK yarn made of acrylic/cotton/nylon.
• US size K/6.50 mm crochet hook
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Yarn Substitutions:

The Sensations Breeze was originally available from JoAnn Fabrics, but is no longer available. Below are a couple of other options:

Fixation Splash from Cascade Yarns: The closest match I could find to the texture Sensations Breeze, but it only comes in 100 yard skeins, so you would need a lot of them.

Sarasota from Cascade Yarns: Similar fiber content and finished product

Ella Rae Marmel Yarn: Similar color options, and similar fiber content. Looks like a hand-spun yarn.

Berroco Spree Yarn: Similar color options, a classic high quality, yet affordable option.

Abbreviations:

Gauge:

Gauge is 3 shells x 9 rows = 5″ x 5″ blocked.

To make Swatch:
Row 1: Fsc 19.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in 1 st, *sk 2, 5dc in next, sk 2, sc in next. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in last st.
Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout), 2dc in 1st sc, *sk 2, sc in 3rd dc of shell, sk 2, 5dc in next sc. Repeat from *
across. End with 3dc in last sc instead of 5dc.
Repeat 2-3 until you have 9 rows.

Measurements & Yardages:

Pattern Instructions:

Row 1: Fsc 102, (114, 126, 138, 150, 162, 174, 186, 198). Being careful not to twist, sl st to 1st. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, sk 2, 5dc in next, sk 2, *sc in next, sk 2, 5dc in next, sk 2. Repeat from * around. Turn. 17, (19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31, 33) shells.
Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout), 2dc in 1st sc, *sk 2, sc in 3rd dc of shell, sk 2, 5dc in next sc. Repeat from * across. End by placing 2dc in same st as join. Sl st to begch3. Turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in same, *sk 2, 5dc in sc, sk 2, sc in 3 dc of shell. Repeat from * across. Sk 2 and sl st to 1 sc. Turn.
Repeat rows 3-4 until you have 13, (15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 23, 25, 25) total rows including fsc row, or until desired length. End with a Row 3. Do not fasten off.

Divide for front and back panels:
We will now add markers to divide your front and back panels, starting with the back panel. You just finished a row 3 so you should be attached to the center of a shell. Count to the left over your first half shell and 5, (7, 7, 9, 9, 11, 11, 13, 13) full shells. Place a marker in the 3rd dc of next shell. This marker is for the other edge of the back panel. Count over half shell and 1, (1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3) more full shells, and place marker in 3 dc of next shell. This marker is for the edge of the front panel.

Go back to where your yarn is attached and count to the right over your half shell, and 1, (1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3) more full shells. Place marker in 3rd dc of next shell. This marks the other edge of the front panel.

Back Panel:

Row 1: Starting where you left off – Ch 1, sc in same, *sk 2, 5dc in sc, sk 2, sc in 3 dc of shell. Repeat from * across to marker, ending with last sc in marker. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in same, sk 2, sc in 3rd dc of shell, sk 2, *5dc in next sc, sk 2, sc in next dc, sk 2. Repeat from * across. 3dc in last st. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in 1st, *sk 2, 5dc in sc, sk 2, sc in 3 dc of shell. Repeat from * across to marker, ending with last sc in marker. Turn.

Repeat rows 2-3 until you have 11, (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19) total rows for the back panel. Fasten off.

Front Panel:
Row 1: Attach with a Sl st to right marked stitch. Ch 1, sc in same, *sk 2, 5dc in sc, sk 2, sc in 3 dc of shell. Repeat from * across to marker, ending with last sc in marker. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in same, sk 2, sc in 3rd dc of shell, sk 2, *5dc in next sc, sk 2, sc in next dc, sk 2. Repeat from * across. 3dc in last st. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in 1st, *sk 2, 5dc in sc, sk 2, sc in 3 dc of shell. Repeat from * across to marker, ending with last sc in marker. Turn.

Repeat rows 2-3 until you have 7, (8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15) total rows for the front panel. Do not fasten off.

Front Panel Shaping:
Locate your middle shell and place marker in it. Place markers in center dc of each shell to the left and right of middle shell.

Row 8, (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16): picking up where you left off. Ch 3,
2dc in same, *sk 2, sc in next dc, sk 2, shell in sc, sk 2, sc in next dc. Repeat from * until you sc in marked stitch. Turn.

Row 9, (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17): Sl st to 3rd dc of 1 shell. Ch 1, sc in
same, *sk 2, shell in next sc, sk 2, sc in next dc. Repeat from * across ending with last sc in begch3. Turn.

Row 10, (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18): Ch 3, 2dc in same, sk 2, *sc in next
dc, sk 2, shell in next sc, sk 2. Repeat from * across. End with sc in 3rd dc of next shell. Leave remaining sts unworked. Turn.

Row 11, (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19): Ch 3, 2dc in same, sk 2, *sc in next
dc, sk 2, shell in next sc, sk 2. Repeat from * across. Sc in begch3.
Fasten off & leave tail for sewing.

Next:

Attach with a sl st to sc on other side of row 7, (8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15). Repeat front panel shaping rows.

Flip work wrong side out, line up your shoulder and back panel stitches and seam them together. I chose to whip stitch them.
Remove front panel markers.

Neckline:
Round 1: With RS Facing, Attach with a sl st to the middle of the back neck and evenly sc around the edge. Sl st to 1 sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Sl st to 1 . Fasten off.

Sleeves:
With RS facing, attach with sl st to middle stitch at armpit.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, place 42, (48, 48, 54, 54, 60, 60, 66, 72) sc evenly around armhole edge. Sl st to 1 sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same, sk 2, shell in next, sk 2, *sc in next, sk 2, shell in next, sk 2. Repeat from * around. Sl st to 1 sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in same, sk 2, sc in next dc, sk 2, *shell in next sc, sk 2, sc in next dc, sk 2. Repeat from * around. 2dc in 1st st, sl st to begch3.

Rnds 4-12: Repeat rounds 2-3 four times.

Rnd 13: Ch 1, sc in same, sk 2, 4dc in next sc, sk 2, *sc in next, sk 2, 4dc in next sc, sk 2. Repeat from * around. Sl st to 1st sc.

Rnd 14: Ch 3, dc in same, sk 2, sc between 2nd and 3rd dc of shell, sk 2, *4dc in next sc, sk 2, sc between 2nd and 3rd dc of shell, sk 2. Repeat from * around. 2dc in 1st st, sl st to begch3.

Rnd 15: Ch 1, sc in same, sk 1 dc, 4dc in next sc, sk 2, *sc between 2nd and 3rd dc of shell, sk 2, 4dc in next sc, sk 2. Repeat from * around. Sl st to 1 sc.

Rnd 16: Repeat round 14.

Rnd 17: Repeat round 15.

Rnd 18: Ch 3, dc in same, sk 1, sc in between 2nd and 3rd dc of shell, sk 2, *3dc in next sc, sk 2, sc in between 2 and 3 dc of shell, sk 2. Repeat from * around. 1 dc in 1 st. Sl st to begch3.

Rnd 19: Ch 1, sc in same, sk 1, 3dc in next sc, sk 1, *sc in next dc, sk 1, 3dc in next sc, sk 1. Repeat from * around. Sl st to 1 sc.

Rnd 20: Ch 3, dc in same, sk 1, *3dc in next sc, sk 1, sc in next dc, sk 1. Repeat from * around. 1dc into 1 sc, sl st to begch3.

Repeat rounds 19-20 until approx. 3″ remaining to your wrist.

Next Round: Ch 3, dc in same, 2dc in each st around. Sl st to begch3.

Next Round: Ch 3, dc in same, *1dc in next, 2dc in next. Repeat from * around. Sl st to begch3.

Next Round: Ch 3, 1 dc in each st around. Sl st to begch3. Repeat this round until desired length. Fasten off & repeat for 2nd sleeve.

Bottom Ruffle:

With RS facing, attach with a sl st to any foundation chain on the back side of the sweater.

Row 1: Ch 3, dc in same, 2dc in each st around. Sl st to begch3. 204, (228, 252, 276, 300, 324, 348, 372, 396) dc.

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in same, *1dc in next, 2dc in next. Repeat from * around. Sl st to begch3. 306, (342, 378, 414, 450, 486, 522, 558, 594) dc

Row 3: Ch 3, dc in each st around. Sl st to begch3.

Repeat row 3 until desired length. Fasten off & weave in all ends.
