Hi, its me, Emily at Crochet Aweigh! New month, new free pattern collection! This next collection is inspired by the song “I Think He Knows” on the Lover album by Taylor Swift. This song is bubblegum pop, and is all about having a crush and the excitement of starting a new relationship. So naturally we have to use lots of pinks and ruffles in these patterns.
I just HAD to use one of our shop’s exclusive yarns for this one because it is the pinkest yarn I’ve ever seen! This color is called Honkey Tonk Pink and it is dyed up exclusively for us by Swan City Yarns, based out of Lakeland, FL. This color is based off of some local history! Back in the early 80’s a film crew came to our small town of Mount Dora and thought it would be perfect to film their next movie, Honkey Tonk Freeway. They proceeded to paint downtown all different shades of pink, every building, sign, and light post! The town stayed pink for the duration of the filming and for a while afterwards.
Swan City yarns has so many beautiful yarn bases, but the one we chose for the first order of our exclusive Honkey Tonk Pink was the Sparkly Sock, which is 75% Superwash Merino, 15% Nylon, and 10% Stellina, which is what makes this yarn sparkle! The 10% stellina is an unusual blend. Most sparkle yarns only have 5%, so the sparkly sock really shines in person! We also carry their Sparkly DK base at the shop.

Pattern Notes:
- This pattern is advanced beginner level.
- This pattern is written made to measure, so as long as you have the bust measurement for yourself or whoever you want to make this top for, you can make it to fit.
- This top is designed to fit snug with 0″ ease.
- The top is based on your bust measurement. Instructions say to add 3″ to the foundation row because the shell stitch shrinks the foundation row.
- Pattern is worked in the round without turning after each row.
- For reference, my bust is 42.5″ around, so that is what the sample is based on.
- Feel free to go down a hook size for the straps. They tend to increase quite a bit with the ruffle.

- Swan City Yarns Sparkly Sock in Honkeytonk Pink. 100 grams / 437 yards per skein. Sample used 93 grams or 407 yards. Fingering Weight (1)
- Cascade Yarns Heritage in Peach Pearl. 100 grams / 437 yards per skein. Sample used 81 grams or 354 yards. Fingering Weight (1)
- US size G/4.00 mm crochet hook
- Soft Tape Measure
- Tapestry Needle
- Stitch Markers
- Scissors

Ch – Chain
Fsc – Foundation Single Crochet
Dc – Double Crochet
Sl st – Slip Stitch
Hdc – Half Double Crochet

RS – Right Side

Gauge:
This pattern is made to measure, so gauge is not crucial. Mine came out to: 3.5 shells = 4″; 13 Rows = 4″
Pattern Instructions
Begin by making 2 rectangles:
Measure the widest part of your bust and add 3″. This is the measurement you will use for round 1.
Round 1: Fsc until you have your measurement. Being careful not to twist, sl st to 1 fsc.
Rd 2: Ch 1, sc in 1 , Sk 1, 5dc in next, sk 1, *sc in next, sk 1, 5dc in next, sk 1. Repeat from * around. Sl st to 1 sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc here & throughout), 2 dc in same, sk 2 dc, sc in 3 dc of shell, sk 2 dc, *5dc in next sc, sk 2, sc in 3 dc of shell, sk 2. Repeat from * around. 2 dc into 1 sc, sl st to beg ch3.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, sk 2, 5dc in next sc, sk 2, *sc in 3 dc of next shell, sk 2, 5dc into next sc, sk 2. Repeat from * around. Sl st to 1 sc.
Repeat rows 3 & 4 until you have enough to cover your bust. You can make this section longer if you choose.
Last row of bodice: Ch 1, sc in same, sk 2 dc, 3dc in next sc, sk 2 dc, *sc in next dc, sk 2 dc, 3dc in next sc, sk 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Sl st to first sc. Fasten Off. Note: this row is to even out the edge before moving on to peplum increases.
Peplum:
Rnd 1: With RS facing Attach CC with sl st in any st. Ch 2 (doesn’t count as st here and throughout), 2 dc in each st around. Sl st to 1 dc.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2dc in same, *1 dc in next, 2dc in next. Repeat from * around. Sl st to 1 dc.
Rnd 3: Ch 2, 2dc in same, *1 dc in next 3 sts, 2dc in next. Repeat from * around. Sl st to 1 dc.
Rnds 4 – 6: Ch 2, dc in same, dc in each st around. Sl st to 1 dc. Note: you can make this section as long as desired.
Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Sl st to 1 . Fasten off.
Straps:
Try on your top. Place a marker on the left and right where you want the inside of your strap to start. I chose to find the center of my chest and measure 3″ on either side and place the markers. My markers are about 6″ apart.
Lay your project flat with the front side up and center your front markers. Place 2 more markers on the back, where the straps are going to attach to the back side.
Count from your front marker to each back marker and make sure you have the same number of sts on each side. I have 43 sts between the front and back markers for my size.
Try your top back on and use a soft tape measure to measure how long your straps should be. I used a mirror to see my back and the tape measure. Subtract 3.5″ from your measurement for stretching. My measurement minus 3.5″ = 14.5″ straps for my size.
To begin: With MC and right side facing, sl st to front marker. Chain however many
you need to get to your strap measurement. Being careful not to twist, sl st to back
marker, and next st on the top edge. Turn.
Row 1: Hdc in each ch across. Sl st to st next to front marker and in next st. Turn.
Row 2: Sk 2 sl sts, Hdc in each st across. Sl st to next st on the top edge. Fasten off MC.
Row 3: Begin with CC and sl st in next st on top row where you fastened off. 2dc in each hdc across. Sl st to next 2 sts on top edge. Turn.
Row 4: Sk 2 sl sts, 2dc in each st across. Sl st to next 2 sts on top edge. Turn.
Row 5-6: Sk 2 sl sts, Dc in each st across. Sl st into next 2 sts on top edge. Fasten off.
Repeat these steps for 2 strap, but attach to back marker instead of front.
Weave in all ends & wet block.
